The CCTC hosted an executive engagement session at the River Club, in Observatory, where Dr. Justin Barnes presented to manufacturing executives an innovative new labour model, termed the “4 + 4 Operating Model”. The model has the potential to increase production capacity by up to 77% without any increase in the average hours worked per week and while increasing or maintaining employees’ monthly income.

The purpose of the session was to solicit feedback on the practical merits and flaws of the model and to gauge interest from industry. Encouragingly, at least three manufacturers across the CCTC and KZNCTC have already committed to piloting the model at their plants.
