Lean Boot Camp Feedback: Hands - on training for real impact
May - July 2019The CCTC was pleased to host 26 learners on a Lean Boot Camp course at K-Way Manufacturers in May, June and July. The 6-session Lean Boot Camp covered the core and underlying principles of Lean and A3 problem-solving with a strong bias towards practical application through group work, a factory site visit, and individual assignments.
One notable feature of the course is the individual problem-solving project where each participant had to identify a real issue at their respective firm, apply Lean concepts and A3 problem-solving techniques to produce clear, actionable solutions, and then present their findings to management at their firm.
The individual projects were tremendously impactful and yielded real, actionable initiatives. In one case, participants identified waste reduction measures with a potential cost savings of R300,000 over 6 months.
Key concepts covered in the individual projects included:
- Introduction of waste reduction and fool-proof fixture (poka yoke) systems;
- Implementation of visual management on factory floor;
- Processes to improve reject identification;
- Introducing measurement of key metrics for improved decision-making;
- Initiatives aimed at introducing a continuous improvement culture on the factory floor.
Given the positive feedback from both learners and their managers as well as the high demand for places on the two previous iterations of the course, the CCTC will host another Lean Boot Camp from September to early November 2019 – this time at team-leader level. Look out for the invite and be sure to sign up and secure spaces for this high-impact training course!
