April 2019 - December 2019

The CCTC  to extended an invitation to interested members to partner with the Thandeka Vocational Education Trust (TVET) college in Maitland on their sewing operator training programme.

TVET has recently won a Silver Award for Best Practise in Skills Development at the National Skills Conference and Awards hosted by the National Skills Authority (NSA).

The TVET currently has 21 learners on their NQF level 2 sewing operator learnership programme and is seeking to partner with firms who will give the learners the necessary workplace exposure so that they can complete their learnership programme. Each learner requires 8 months of workplace experience at a cost to the company of R70 per day. Learners have received theory and practical training on plain, overlock and cover seam machines. The TVET will provide further training on specific operations based on the needs of each host firm. Each host firm should be prepared to accommodate a minimum of 5 learners in order to participate.

Purpose of the Training Programme

The purpose of the training programme is to provide learners with workplace exposure as a sewing machine operator with the possibility of an employment offer after the 8-month training placement. This programme seeks to provide firms with increased access to skilled labour. Given the opportunity, learners will work hard to prove themselves in the workplace.
