Getting to grips with Industry 4.0: Launch of Research Project

February 2019

In line with our strategic focus on understanding the role of technology in improving manufacturing performance, the CCTC has launched a research project on the implications of Industry 4.0 for the clothing and textile industry. The study aimed to answer:

1. What types of smart technologies are likely to be required for the advancement of the apparel industry in South Africa, incorporating the entire life cycle of production, from concept to post-retail?

2. What are the associated skill sets that will be required to deploy these technologies?

3. What will be required to upskill the existing workforce and/or labour pool to understand and operate these technologies?

The final outcome of the research will be a set of practical recommendations for stakeholders to implement to ensure they take advantage of the benefits of the digital revolution.
